Frequently Asked Questions

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my class, what are your policies?

During checkout our complete cancellation and rescheduling policies are outlined. For basic classes you have up to one week before a class to cancel without a fee. Any basic class canceled within a week of class will be charged a $20 fee. For advanced classes (ACLS/PALS), you must cancel within two weeks of class or there is a $50 fee. The fee is for reprinting of certification cards, finding replacement students for class, and mandatory administrative fees. During Covid we are happy to reschedule for no charge for any reason.

Do your classes meet Daycare regulations?

Yes! Our Standard, or Lay Responder CPR with First Aid classes meet both Rule 2 and 3 of the MN Childcare laws. Click here for this course:

Why should I choose HeartCert?

All of our classes are taught by experienced professionals who can knowledgeably speak about real world CPR and First Aid. We are accredited by the Better Business Bureau, are licensed, insured, and certified to teach in MN and offer unparalleled prices and customer service.

How do I know what class I need?

If you are required to have CPR or First Aid certification, your employer should have the standards and requirements for you. Please review these before selecting a course. With that in mind, classes are broken into standard (lay responder) and Healthcare Professional courses. First Aid certification is generally encouraged but not required unless you are a daycare provider, teacher, or have specific requirements for it. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us.

How much are your courses and how long are they?

We have the lowest prices in the metro and all of our courses follow American Heart Association standard lengths. For a complete listing of our courses and prices click here.

What if I just want to re-certify, isn’t the class shorter for that?

The American Heart Association changed the standards for certification/re-certification in 2010 and 2015. There is virtually no difference in the length of the course between renewal/initial, so all of our courses are taught as initial offerings. At checkout however, you may indicate if you are re-certifying. This will let the instructor gauge the level of experience for the class which can speed things up.

Do I have to pay when I sign up, or can I pay when I get to class?

Our classes are quite popular and fill up fast, for this reason pre-payment is required to reserve your seat. The quickest, most secure method is to pay via our secure website, however you can choose to pay over the phone or mail payment by contacting us.

Can you come to me to offer a class?

Yes! We specialize in on-site, mobile training at other locations. We would like a minimum of 6 participants to come to your home or business for the class, but this is negotiable. For more information please go HERE

How long are your certifications good for, and are these legitimate classes that will be accepted by my employer?

All of our classes are taught to American Heart Association Standards which meet or exceed any requirements for CPR/First Aid any employer may have. The American Heart Association is the only standard that is accepted in the Healthcare Field and exceeds the course requirements of the American Red Cross. All Certification cards are valid for 2 years. Please note the AHA now uses Electronic, E-cards, for certification. This is a faster, safer and more efficient way of offering certification. You are able to print out this certification if desired or you can contact us before your class if you want a paper card instead of electronic. You will be emailed your certification card within one week after class for Heartsaver and BLS classes (ACLS/PALS have paper cards until later this year).

Do I need a book? How do I get access to the course materials?

This is explained in the checkout process of each class. The AHA requires everyone to have access to a book before, during and after class which is the responsibility of the student.

Is there a test? What if I fail?

For our Heartsaver (standard, non-healthcare related) courses, there is an optional written test. If your employer wants a written test completed please let us know, otherwise you simply must attend the entire class and demonstrate all skills that are taught to obtain your certification card. For Healthcare Professional Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS), there are written and practical exams that must be completed. You must score an 84% or higher to pass. Those who do not pass may be asked to study the material and test again on another day. You are allowed one re-testing or remediation session free of charge before having to pay for the course again.

When will I get my certification card?

Heartsaver (Standard) and BLS classes the AHA now uses a safer, faster and more secure method for delivery of certification cards, E-cards. Within one week of class your card will be e-mailed to you from the AHA, you can choose to print it or can save and forward to your employer. If you do not want an E-card you must let us know before class. For ACLS/PALS classes we will print and mail the certification card to you within one week.

CEU’s and optional course addons– What are they and do you need them?

CEU’s are Continuing Education Units that are often times required in the Healthcare Field to keep a particular license. The number of hours you are in class you can generally claim for your license renewals. Your certification card is adequate and valid proof of your hours and completion, however, some individuals still prefer to have a separate certificate printed that provides this information. For those who would like this extra certificate, you may elect to have this E-mailed to you after class by selecting the option to add a CEU at checkout. None of the optional course add-ons are required and it is still up to the individual to check with their agency to see if the CEU is what they need for recertifications. If you have already registered and still want to add a CEU (or other product add-on) click HERE.

I need a new certification card from a past class

No problem! As long as you were certified with our agency we can mail you a new card for $10. Please click HERE to fill out a form and then be sure to complete the process to pay the fee and have your card mailed. If you were certified by another agency you must contact them for a card as we cannot issue one.

Why is your ACLS class only one day? I see others around that are two days?

We require BLS as a prerequisite and cap our classes off at 6 students. This coupled with limited breaks and we are able to obtain certification in one full day. We follow all American Heart Association guidelines, including course length.

What if I need a class that is not offered here, need it sooner, or to get on a wait-list?

Please contact us and we will be happy to help.

How do I become an Instructor or align with your company?

We offer initial instructor and renewal instructor courses quarterly / as needed. Current instructors may also renew with us. We offer many valuable teaching and tracking tools to make instructing easier. Visit this link to start the process.

What is HeartCert?

We have expanded and evolved outside of the Twin Cities MN Metro area due to high demand for our high quality and low cost courses. Conducting courses in other regions on a regular basis it only made sense to take on a broader name, so HeartCert was born! We continue to offer the same great courses at unbeatable prices, it’s just a small name change.

Please note the AHA and ARC now uses Electronic, E-cards, for certification. Information for employers and students on this can be found on the American Heart Association Website. You will be emailed your certification card within one week after class. Contact us with questions.

Use of American Heart Association materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the Association.
